About Tutor Matthew
Matt has been playing guitar for 16 years. His guitar journey began with gospel music in his local church band. From there he took a keen interest in rootsy sounding acoustic players, such as Jack Johnson, John Butler and Matt Corby. His focus shifted from gospel music to solo acoustic performances. In 2017 Matt undertook a Bachelor of Contemporary Music at the Australian Institute of Music, majoring in guitar. He learnt the history and fundamentals of Western music and became more interested in music theory. This training gave him a solid foundation from which he can understand and teach guitar. Matt’s passion is helping people on their journey of discovering the guitar. He has played a range of styles from roots acoustic, to folk, contemporary rock, funk, jazz, blues and reggae. He specialises in rhythm guitar and music theory, while holding a strong understanding of improvisation. Matt doesn’t have a one size fits all teaching method as everyone has different needs and goals. Wherever you are at in your guitar journey, Matt will be able to help you take it to the next level.
