Production Lessons in Your Home

In addition to our growing list of instrument lessons, Guitar Tutor Commuter offers music production lessons in Sydney and online to students of all ages. Taking private lessons or enrolling in a production course can be an extremely fun and exciting way to start learning live and studio production skills to start creating music of your own. Our awesome team of tutors are eager to share their experience working in a diverse range of different musical contexts.

Music production lessons with GTC go much further than other online courses, which don’t offer students the same encouragement to produce more creatively. Our music production tutors in Sydney provide real industry experience and pick apart your favourite songs to help you understand what is going on in regards to their arrangement and production elements. Depending on the student’s interests, some music theory may be referred to. It is not essential knowledge when learning about music technology; however, it can be extremely useful if you are serious about becoming a music producer or DIY songwriter. Students can also enrol in an online musicianship course if they are more serious about learning music theory.

Our music production teachers have experience with industry standard DAWs (Digital Audio Workstations) such as Logic Pro, Cubase, Ableton Live, Pro Tools and other basic programs like GarageBand and Audacity. These programs can be used to produce electronic music or any other style of music like rock, jazz and pop. GarageBand can be fun to play around on and as a tool to teach basic concepts to kids, but more serious high school students and people over 20 years old should consider investing in a DAW with higher functionality.

If you are just looking for more of an overview of the skills needed to become a music producer; rather than taking weekly private production lessons, you may wish to enrol in our online music production course. In these group classes you will learn music production from a music production tutor who has real industry experience both live and in the studio. The production lessons will cover basic recording techniques; mixing and mastering with reverb, EQ and compression; sound design through exploring the possibilities of other effects like delay and chorus; sampling to create original beats and techno drum grooves; and how to create your own synth sounds.

Private music production lessons give you a chance to dive deeper into these and other topics whilst being guided to use the skills creatively in different contexts discussed with your production tutor. You can learn how to record your own sampled sounds from household items and then make them into a drum beat or atmospheric soundscape. As a GTC student you will gain unlimited access to our growing sample library to play around with in your own time. You can even contribute some sounds yourself! We’re excited to hear what new concepts you might come up with.

You know your child best! Most can handle a full-hour lesson; however, if you are strapped for time or they are 7 years old or younger and have trouble focussing, looking into one of the 30 or 45-minute lessons may be better. You will quickly find that the more time students spend with their instrument, the better they will become. So we always recommend choosing hour lessons if they can. Feel free to call us on 0433 539 728 if you’re not sure!

We provide lessons in students’ homes all over Sydney and there’s a good chance that there’s a tutor studio close to you as well. If you are outside of Sydney, we also offer Online Lessons so you can be anywhere in the world and still receive top quality lessons!

You sure can! Our tutors become well-versed in online lessons back in 2020 and have been improving their virtual teaching methods ever since. It is a great option to save money and travel time. All you need is a computer and an microphone – oh, and an instrument!
